Agronomist visit

The golf club have recently employed the services of a registered independent agronomist. Philip Armitage visited the golf club last Friday to undertake some testing of our golf greens. The tests included:

- Clegg Hammer (used to test surface firmness)
- Soil Moisture Meter
- Soil Penetrometer (examines compaction levels in soil)

We also looked at current thatch levels along with other playing surfaces on the golf course. We will receive the agronomy report in due course with a view to implementing the advice.

As we staged the annual Ladies Open last Saturday, we were busy preparing the golf course for this important day in the Ladies golf calendar.

Most greens were micro tined last week to keep the surfaces open and to allow essential air exchange in the soil. Given the tines were small, the impact on play was extremely minimal.

We also started to strim along the many ditches on the golf course. In time, we will get around to them all. Well done to James for his continued efforts!

We also dropped the greens height of cut to 3.7mm last week. This will tighten up the surfaces and hopefully improve playability. We will aim to reduce the height of cut again soon in preparation for Club Championships and Captain's Day.

Have a great week and enjoy your golf!
